Join a Friday fast and/or protest in solidarity with illegally detained, often tortured prisoners at Guantanamo and other post 9/11 gulags around the world. The fast began about a year ago when Nobel Peace Laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Adolpho Esquivel, (Argentina), along with others around the world, chose this method to seek the release of our unjustly detained and tortured brothers and sisters.
Here in Boston, local activists Susan McLucas and Phoebe Knopf have joined the Friday fast and will protest every Friday in front of the JFK Building from noon to one. The action, which is rooted in nonviolence, includes speakers, music, hand-outs and petitions to create public pressure to shut down the gulags and to try those responsible for illegal, brutal treatment of thousands of detainees, most of whom are Arab and Muslim men. Susan and Phoebe will be wearing orange jumpsuits. It would be great if folks would join us. There are four more suits people could wear.
Deval Patrick has enriched himself by counseling corporate scofflaws to the detriment of the public interest and human rights. He helped Coca-Cola destroy the rights of its workers. Ask Patrick why he signed on to the Zionist propaganda ad, "We Stand With Israel" - full of lies and distortion - that appeared in the Boston Globe 7/20/06.

HAVING NO HEALTH INSURANCE IS THE THIRD-LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR PEOPLE IN MASSACHUSETTS AGES 50-64.
Over 750,000 people in MA have no health insurance, a situation that causes early death and contributes to extraordinary levels of preventable illness and needless suffering.
Newton Dialogs is one of the organizations supporting the addition of a Health Care Amendment to our State Constitution to create a Commonwealth where every person has access to comprehensive, affordable and equitably financed coverage for medically necessary health care services including preventive care, mental health care and prescription drugs. See http://www.healthcareformass.org/ for details. Whatever health care reform bill our state legislature passes, there will be more work to guarantee everyone affordable comprehensive coverage. The Amendment will keep us on track until that works gets done.
Even though the Legislature ducked a yes or no vote on the Health Care Amendment at the July 12 ConCon, this Campaign is far from over. We need your help in getting a vote on the Amendment at the November 9th ConCon to qualify for the November 2008 ballot.
PLEASE CALL Senate President Robert Travaglini right now at 617.722.1500.
Ask him to promptly convene the special committee to study the Health Care Amendment so the committee can meet and report on the Amendment in time for a vote on November 9. This vote is a must to create a right to affordable, comprehensive, and fairly funded health and mental health care coverage for every Massachusetts resident.

“Olive Branch” Extra Virgin Olive Oil is raised without pesticides or sprays and First-Cold-Pressed. This year we are importing the oil directly from the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee (PARC), a non-governmental, non-profit organization in Ramallah which has been on the forefront of supporting Palestinian agriculture since the 1980’s. PARC buys its olive oil from 85 different small farmer cooperatives in the West Bank. It takes care of testing, quality control, bottling, labeling and marketing. Available in 750ml bottles, by the case (12 bottles), or more. Now more than ever, important to Palestinian farmers. FROM OUR FRIEND ELAINE ANTONIA: This is an edited copy of an important message and two very important events. The JCRC (for those who aren't familiar with the acronym) is the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston, an ardently pro-Israel group which does enormous amounts of propagandizing for Israel at churches, libraries and other venues of all sizes in the Boston area. I think that it's clear from their appearance at the Kennedy School that it is to help to spread negative propaganda against Iran to help the American people swallow the idea of the righteousness of bombing Iran "into the stone age". Now is the time to stop this atrocity as we certainly don't want to have to be out later protesting the deaths of thousands of Iranians by our country the US and its agent Israel (or is it vice versa?). Hope you can appear at one or both of the events. Don't wait until it's TOO LATE. The following message is not mine but just forwarded. Peace and justice and hope to see you there. Elaine Antonia
JCRC's Israel Action Center are starting their pro-war anti-Iran protest outside the JFK school in Harvard Square tomorrow at 3 PM.
JCRC Boston's Pro-War anti-Iran Web Site
John Walsh and I and other anti-war activists will be there at 3 PM. John is going to have a banner that says "US & Israel Hands Off Iran! No More Wars for Oil, Empire & Israel". John may have a flyer. I will make a sign that will probably say "USA & Israel are the Real Terrorist" and then maybe list the number of nuclear weapons that the US, Israel and Iran each have. And I'll have a Palestinian flag. We need more people. We should have Palestine signs too. I will try to bring some extra Palestine signs.
We will leave Harvard Square by 6:30 to get over to the Newton Dialogues meeting to continue protesting against JCRC there at where Seth Brysk, the director of JCRC's Israel Action Center, has been invited to speak. This event is at the Eliot Church in Newton Corner on the corner of Church St and Centre St. People enter from the parking lot on Church St. We'll hold Palestine signs, and hand out flyers.

When Sarah Chayes entered Afghanistan, she was a National Public Radio reporter on assignment, covering the last stand of the Taliban from their home base of Kandahar. But as her understanding of the country and the U.S. occupation grew, she was drawn more deeply into the unfolding drama to rebuild a broken nation not just as a reporter, but as an aide and a witness. Chayes quickly dedicated herself to turning the country's fortunes around by accepting a job running as Field Director of Afghans for Civil Society, a non-governmental aid organization founded by Qayum Karzai, brother of President Hamid Karzai.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON 9-11?, a multi-media event, exploring the events of September 11, 2001. Theater Professor Raymond Munro and his students will consider the many questions that still surround the worst terrorist attack this nation has ever experienced through theatre, film and discussion.
Questions include: What did our government know about this terrorist attack and when did they know it? Were the Twin Towers and WTC 7 brought down by explosives? Isn't the Pentagon surrounded by cameras? Why have we no photographs of the plane that hit the Pentagon? When did Flight 93 crash? Was it shot down? Do cell phones work at 30,000 feet? Is it possible that U.S. Officials were involved?.
The evening's program will consist of the following: 1. A videotaped lecture by David Ray Griffin of the University of Wisconsin. This lecture provides an introduction to the questions that persist from that day forward. A leading proponent of process philosophy and theology, David Ray Griffin is professor of philosophy of religion and theology, emeritus, at Claremont School of Theology and Claremont Graduate University. His 27 books include "God, Power, and Evil" (1976), "Unsnarling the World-Knot: Consciousness, Freedom, and the Mind-Body Problem" (1998), "The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11" (2004), "The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions" (2005), and "Deep Religious Pluralism" (edited) 2005. He has also published over 150 essays..
2. Student composed theatre works concerning questions surrounding 9/11, directed by Ray Munro. Munro's recent productions include Waiting for Godot, Saint Joan, Holy Ghosts, Triptych: Three Works by Samuel Beckett, and Endgame. His independent films have been seen on American public television, and have toured museums throughout Great Britain. Ray was an original member of The Chicago Project and has performed for the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Open Space in London, and the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, MA. His international work includes appointments as visiting artist in the Drama Studies Program at University College Dublin, and guest artist at the University of Trier, Germany. He is professor of theatre in the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Clark University, Mass., and artistic director of Foxrock Performance Company..
3. A discussion with the participants and the audience moderated by Professor Albert A. Anderson Ph.D. Dr. Anderson, Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Babson College, has held tenured positions in philosophy at Babson College, Clark University and Albion College. He has also held full-time faculty positions at Rhode Island School of Design and Bates College. At Babson College and at Rhode Island School of Design he served as Chair of the Liberal Arts Division, and at Clark University he was Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts department. He holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in philosophy from Boston University and a B.A. in English and Drama from Morningside College. His scholarly work centers on ancient Greek philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics. He has published monographs, translations, and approximately 80 scholarly papers on a variety of philosophical subjects. Dr Anderson is Senior Scholar and Partner of Agora Publicatrions. He will give the keynote address at the 7th World Conference of the International Society for Universal Dialogue on Hiroshima, Japan (June 1-5, 2007). It was while doing research for this address which will treat the issue of nationalism vs. world community that led him to the questions surrounding 9/11.

Born into the Mindrolling lineage, which throughout its history has had many accomplished female masters, Khandro Rinpoche was recognized at the age of two by His Holiness the 16th Karmapa as the re-incarnation of the Great Dakini of Tsurphu, Khandro Ugyen Tsomo, who was one of the most renowned female masters of her time. Rinpoche, at 36 years old, has been teaching internationally for twelve years and teaches extensively in both Europe and North America. She speaks fluent English and is known for her sharp intelligence and sense of humor.
Dave Lewit, New England Alliance for Democracy writes:
September 11 is the 5th anniversary of the bombings of the World Trade Towers in New York City and the Pentagon. It is also the 100th anniversary of Gandhi's launch of Satyagraha-Truth Force, or strategic nonviolence-in Johannesburg, South Africa. I see a contrast here-the 2001 events spell mendacity and death; the Gandhi event spells truth and life. Can the revived courageous event displace the fear-ridden event? How can the Gandhi event be commemorated? Should it be a day of reminiscence and honoring the man, or might it be a day of resolve to build a movement of nonviolence to bring justice and new society to our world?".
His description of how to create Gandhi Circles for study leading toward building a movement of nonviolence to bring justice and a new society to our world in posted at http://www.newenglandalliance.org There is also a series of Group Readings and Discussion on Strategic Nonviolence to print out. Also, read award-winning journalist Bob Koehler's "Twenty Ghandis: Reclaiming 9/11 through Satyagraha" at http://commonwonders.com/archives/col361.htm You may wish to contact Dave at dlewit@igc.org, whose chapter has organized a group reading at the Boston-Cambridge AfD on September 20, or consult with Jean Maryborn (maryborn@earthlink.net) who has organized an event for Sunday, September 10 in Sandpoint, Idaho, for tips on publicity and a striking event flier. .
We also recommend: "A Force More Powerful," a three-hour documentary series (6 stand-alone segments), explores one of the 20th century's most important but least-understood stories-how nonviolent power overcame oppression and authoritarian rule all over the world. Narrated by Ben Kingsley, it premiered on PBS in September 2000..
"Bringing Down A Dictator," a one-hour documentary, is the inside story of how Milosevic was brought down-not by smoke and flames, but by a courageous and risky campaign of political defiance and massive civil disobedience (with US help). Narrated by Martin Sheen, it premiered on PBS in March 2002..

Support activist Pete Lowney in court against fabricated charges designed to stifle free speech!
Pete's Jury Trial
Wednesday, Sep 13, 9 AM
Concord District Court
305 Walden St, Concord, MA
Directions
On October 23, 2005, during a small peaceful vigil outside an open to the public event at which the israeli consul Meir Shlomo was speaking, Pete Lowney was attacked by Lexington police officer John Frissore and other Lexington police officers . The Lexington police officers were on paid detail for the organizers of the isreali government speaking event.
Pete was standing on a public sidewalk peacefully demonstrating with two other anti war activists, when Frissore and other Lexington police officers violently plucked Pete from the sidewalk, tore away his sign, beat him up, and arrested him.
The police initially refused to tell us what Pete had been arrested for. They said the charges would be determined at the police station. Pete was taken to the Lexington Police Station where he was booked and then re-booked again as the police fabricated additional charges. By the time that Pete was arraigned in Concord District Court the next morning, he was charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing, resisting arrest and assault & battery on a police officer.

The New England Committee to Defend Palestine and Jericho Boston Invite you to A Benefit for Palestinian Political Prisoners
Featuring:
*Palestinian speakers
*Current and former US Political Prisoners
*Music by PRESENTE! and VCR
*Palestinian food
When: Sunday, September 17, 6:00 p.m.
Where: Encuentro 5, 33 Harrison Ave. 5th Floor, Boston
(near the Chinatown stop on the Orange Line T)
In September, 1970, over 3000 Palestinian refugees in Jordan gave their lives in a revolutionary uprising against the repressive "US" and Zionist puppet government of the Jordanian monarchy. In September, 1982, "Israel," in an effort to crush Palestinian resistance in Lebanon, slaughtered over 2000 refugees in Sabra and Shatila. In September 2000, "Israel" murdered 13 Palestinians, marking the beginning of the Al Aqsa Intifada.
Zionist aggression over the past months in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, is a continuation of Israel's 70 year assault on the people of Palestine and Lebanon. By late August, more than 200 Palestinians had been killed and hundreds wounded in this latest period of escalated attacks.
Although the Zionists have intensified their assault on Palestinians because of their defeat in Lebanon, 2006 marks an important turning point in the history of regional resistance to this aggression--the rise of a more and more united regional movement to reclaim sovereignty over Arab land by Palestinian, Lebanese, and Iraqi resistance fighters.
Over the past few months, resistance movements in Palestine and Lebanon have acted with extreme courage. The Popular Resistance Committees in Gaza captured an "Israeli" soldier in order to press for the release of Palestinian political prisoners, who number more than 10,000 and now include over 65 elected leaders. Hizbollah captured two "Israeli" soldiers to press for the release of Lebanese political prisoners.
Join us for an evening in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance.
Event will include
--Information about Palestinian political prisoner defense campaigns
--Statements from current and former US political prisoners
--Palestinian food
--Music by PRESENTE! and VCR
All proceeds will go to Palestinian political prisoners and their families.
