No student of history can escape the parallels between what is going on in Lebanon now and the start of World War I. The question is, do we have political will, and the sanity, to stop it. Those who are not interested in history are at the mercy of the present, so we might as well review. Please go to: A Tale of Two Resolutions.
The Primary Election for this Campaign is Tuesday August 8th. In my view the most one could do to help Stop the Carnage and Destruction in the Middle East and Iraq is to work for Ned Lamont. It is a close primary between Joe Lieberman and Ned Lamont for a US Senate Seat from Connecticut.
Joe Lieberman is probably the staunchest supporter of the Iraq War and a militant pro right wing Israeli in the United States. Ned Lamont is against the Iraq War and hopefully not as pro- Israel as Lieberman. Please contact Michael Trueworthy at the numbers below if you are interested. While Peaceful demonstrations may be good morale boosters, fundraisers and recruiting tools, such action as the above is potentially far more important. If anyone wants an analysis of this please write me.

I believe the Secretary of State should not be an insider bureaucrat, but an independent watchdog - and advocate - for our democracy. Please join me in starting to make this a reality by lending a hand in our petition campaign now. It's fun and a great way to get the word out about our campaign - and lay the groundwork for an upsurge of democracy in November! THE PETITION CAMPAIGN NEEDS YOU NOW!
Call Pat Keaney, petition coordinator, at 857-829-1882, or email
her.
Jill' email.
We are just a few days away from the deadline for signature collection to get on the ballot. To be on the ballot in November, we need 5,000 certified signatures. We currently have about 2,000, with several thousand more in the process of being certified.
IF YOU WANT AFFORDABLE, UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, YOU NEED DEMOCRACY TO GET THERE! The legislature's recent shameful action - killing the proposed referendum for a constitutional right to health care by sending it to a "study" committee to die - is a bitter illustration that democratic reform is needed to enable the solutions for which there is enormous public support and critical need. This initiative was supported by a 2:1 margin by the people of Massachusetts. Yet the insurance industry again won out over the will of the people. We urge disappointed health care advocates to join us in this campaign for democratic reform.
SEIZE THE MOMENT! HELP GATHER SIGNATURES.
[NOTE: Our special friend John Bonifaz is also running for Secretary of the Commonwealth on the Democratic ticket (has sufficient signatures). Jill Stein would not try to beat Bonifaz if he wins the Democratic nomination.]

Despite its attempt to create a socially responsible image, Starbucks' failure to meaningfully embrace Fair Trade coffee has left coffee farmers and their children teetering on the brink of starvation in the Global South. A new documentary, Black Gold (blackgoldmovie.com), reveals in detail the pained existence of coffee farmers under the purchasing practices of Starbucks and other multinational corporations. In Starbucks cafes, baristas are paid a poverty wage and the company insures a lower percentage of employees than Wal-Mart. Starbucks baristas are organizing a union (starbucksunion.org) with the Industrial Workers of the World for a better life on and off the job. In response, the company has waged a fierce and relentless anti-union campaign that tramples on workers' rights. In this union-busting operation unburdened by the law, Starbucks routinely retaliates against baristas for supporting the union. In addition, Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz recently broke the union of roasting plant employees. If you or your group is interested in getting involved with the campaign on the ground floor please contact IWW organizer and Starbucks barista Daniel Gross at dgross@iww.org or 917-577-1110.

TheatreZone presents Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco from July 12-29. TheatreZone in the Park is our fourth annual presentation of free outdoor bilingual theater with performances in English and Spanish. As in past summers, Rhinoceros will be staged environmentally and the audience will move between three locations in the park. The only difference: this summer they will be accompanied by herds of rhinoceroses running alongside them.
Considered by many to be one of the greatest plays of the last century, Rhinoceros uniquely studies the contemporary tension between individuality and conformity, reason and nature. Enter Berenger, an alcoholic with a dead-end job and unrequited love, hoping to turn his life around with the help of his close friend Jean. As the two share Sunday brunch at a local outdoor cafe, a rhinoceros runs through the town square. Inconceivably, the townspeople begin to turn into rhinoceroses. Instinctive terror turns into justification as people learn to "move with the times." And the epidemic begins...
These Free performances of Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco are July 12-29, Wed.-Sat. at 7:30pm. (please arrive early to picnic and for best seating- the show starts promptly at 7:30) Mary O'Malley Park, Commandant's Way, on the Chelsea Waterfront (Admiral's Hill)-bring a blanket or lawn chair! This year we are importing the oil directly from the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee (PARC), a non-governmental, non-profit organization in Ramallah which has been on the forefront of supporting Palestinian agriculture since the 1980’s. PARC buys its olive oil from 85 different small farmer cooperatives in the West Bank. It takes care of testing, quality control, bottling, labeling and marketing. Available in 750ml bottles, by the case (12 bottles), or more. Now more than ever, important to Palestinian farmers. Coverage of last Friday's protest rally at Government Center Boston against Israeli Aggression.
The Iron Wall documentary follows the timeline, size, and population of the settlements in the occupied territories, and their impact on the peace process. This film also touches on the latest project to make the settlements a permanent fact on the ground; the wall that Israel is building in the West Bank and its impact on the Palestinian people.
The film features commentary by:
Akiva Eldar, Ha'aretz Correspondent
Dror Etkes, settlements watch director for Peace Now (Israel)
Jeff Halper, Anthropology Professor, and co-founder the Israeli
Committee against House Demolition
"The Iron Wall is a highly recommended film for anyone concerned
with the quest for a just and peaceful resolution of the Israeli-
Palestinian conflict - a film that takes a clear stand while
showing genuine empathy for both sides."
-- Hillel Schenker, Co-Editor for Palestine-Israel Journal.

The Quincy 4 were falsely charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Their next pre-trial hearing is on Wed., July 26.
BACKGROUND:
On April 30, 2006, Quincy Police viciously assaulted Chinese
Progressive Association organizer, Karen Chen; Quan Manh Thin and Tat
M. Yuen of Quincy; and Howard Ng of Somerville while they were coming
home from a Chinese wedding engagement party. All are young Asian
Americans.
While the victims were talking with the state trooper next to Super 88 Market, a Quincy police car pulled up. Without warning, a police officer jumped out and pepper-sprayed three of them directly in the eyes at close range.
Karen Chen, who is just over five feet tall, was then tackled by three male officers; receiving a black eye, a swollen face, and bruises from the attack. Another victim, Tat M. Yuen was knocked unconscious by the police officer. Throughout the incident, the police officers repeatedly yelled at the victims, used profanities, and called them derogatory names.
The Quincy Police took the four innocent Asian Americans to the police station in handcuffs and falsely charged them with resisting arrest and/or disorderly conduct.

On June 9, 2006 Rob Jr. and his brother Vance were yet again the victims of another groundless racist arrest. The police departments apparent targeting of these young men is just the tip of an ugly iceberg of false arrests during occupation. This current case also is a frame up with no evidence and no merit to the charges.
Rob and Vance Traynham's next court appearance is July 26th 9:00
am

Conversations about GOD and struggling to be Gay
ARE PEOPLE BORN GAY? CAN GAY PEOPLE BE CURED?
Is religion something that only belongs to a few? Taking a
secular point of view, FISH CAN'T FLY explores the lives of Gay
men and women of faith as they recall their journeys to put
their sexuality and spirituality in harmony. While the whole
concept of changing ones' sexual orientation may be viewed with
a high level of skepticism, ridicule and even humor by the
larger GLBT community, these are the stories of those who have
tried.

This film points to the forboding address in which departing president Dwight Eisenhower sternly warns of the growing "military industrial complex" from which half a century later our nation can not become disentangled. The movie shows how a free public can become so powerless in the face of the tightly woven connection of political, corporate, political, academic and Pentagon interests that have led to wars and calamities through the years. This film will be shown free of charge on Thursday July 27th(6PM) and the 28th (3PM.)
The location will be Kittredge Park, at the intersection of Route 38 and Route 133 in Lowell. We'll have some signs but could use more if you want to bring one. It's time for the anti-war majority to show its strength!

Would you walk 123 miles to deliver aid to Palestine?
In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, I have been moved to walk from Boston to Provincetown -- 123 miles in 36 hours straight.
From August 4-6, over two nights and a day, I will raise awareness and Money for a shipment of urgently needed medical supplies to Palestine. Grassroots International needs to raise $20,000 to ship $500,000 worth of donated medical supplies to our partners in Gaza and the West Bank. Would you help with a contribution now?
Contact me if you'd like to join me on my walk. If not, would you make a donation for this medical relief effort to Palestine? Click here to give!
We must raise the money for the shipping this month. If we reach this goal together, your funds will be used for other humanitarian support in Palestine.
I would be grateful if you could forward this message widely to reach tens of thousands of people who will want to help.
