Join a Friday fast and/or protest in solidarity with illegal detentions. The fast began in 2005 when Nobel Peace Laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Adolpho Esquivel, (Argentina), along with others around the world, chose this method to seek the release of our unjustly detained and tortured brothers and sisters.
In Boston, local activists Susan McLucas and Phoebe Knopf have joined the Friday fast and will protest every Friday in front of the JFK Building from noon to one. The action, which is rooted in nonviolence, includes speakers, music, hand-outs and petitions to create public pressure to stop all illegal detentions and to try those responsible for the illegal treatment of thousands of detainees, most of whom are Arab and Muslim men. Susan and Phoebe will be wearing orange jumpsuits.

On June 21, 2007, Reps. Mike Doyle (D-Penn.) and Lee Terry (R-Neb.) and Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) introduced the Local Community Radio Act. Passing this bipartisan bill will bring more diversity of views and music to your radio dial and re-connect communities to a medium that has been largely overrun by massive corporate conglomerates. This legislation needs your support today.
The bill opens the dial to Low Power FM radio stations. These stations are community driven and locally oriented, providing news and information often ignored by mainstream radio -- information crucial to healthy communities and a vibrant democracy.
Current rules deprive many communities across the country from access to local radio. If enacted, this bill will clear more space for better, more independent and local programming that will bring diversity back to the airwaves.
Support this legislation today and help bring local radio to your community!

Representative Dennis Kucinich (Democrat - Ohio, and a 2008 Presidential Candidate) filed three articles of impeachment of VP Dick Cheney on Tuesday, 4/24/07. (see these articles below)
House Resolution (HR) 333 first goes to the House Judiciary Committee headed by John Conyers. The committee will then forward it to the main body. NOW is the time to contact your Representative and Senators to let them know that is essential for the future of our fragile democracy that House members give careful consideration to the Articles and vote to impeach Dick Cheney.

07/07/07: Many of you have written to ask us when we were going to call for the impeachment of Bush as well as Cheney. Of course we have done Bush impeachment action pages before, and were focusing on Cheney on the premise that he was not only the least popular, but also the most guilty. But now Bush has thrown himself in the middle of the worst of the Cheney scandals, and so we have launched a new action page calling for the impeachment of them both.
Doris Tennant and Ellen Lubell (of Newton) are representing a Guantanamo prisoner pro bono, so they are providing their time at no charge. However, their costs, including their own travel and that of a translator, translator fees, and Freedom of Information Act requests, are running at least $20,000 for this year, and will likely continue at that same pace or more. Most of the other attorneys who are representing Guantanamo detainees are members of large law firms that can cover these types of expenses, but in their case the two of them are the firm.
If you would like to make a contribution to help them defray costs, it would be much appreciated. Please make your check payable to "Tennant Lubell Detainee Fund." Your contribution will NOT be tax-deductible, but they promise to put it to good use to help provide fundamental legal rights to a man who remains in indefinite detention.

AFD urgently calls upon all citizens to call their Representatives to demand amendments to rectify the defects in HR 811, specifically to ban the use of DRE voting machines and require the use of paper ballots in all elections in the United States. 1. DRE systems must be banned.
2. All voting must be by voter marks on a paper ballot.
3. All recounts must be by hand counting of paper ballots.
4. All elections must have a statistically significant verification.
5. All recounts at every level of government must be by hand counting.
6. All software must be subject to public disclosure.

“Olive Branch” Extra Virgin Olive Oil is raised without pesticides or sprays and First-Cold-Pressed. This year we are importing the oil directly from the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committee (PARC), a non-governmental, non-profit organization in Ramallah which has been on the forefront of supporting Palestinian agriculture since the 1980’s. PARC buys its olive oil from 85 different small farmer cooperatives in the West Bank. It takes care of testing, quality control, bottling, labeling and marketing. Available in 750ml bottles, by the case (12 bottles), or more. Now more than ever, important to Palestinian farmers.

The Conspiracy Café had its preview opening on Sunday, June 24 and by all accounts it was a successful day. A comfortable mix of activists and people new to 9/11 Truth enjoyed the café environment, currently scheduled for every other Sunday at the Democracy Center at 45 Mt. Auburn St. in Harvard Square.
The Conspiracy Café provides a casual atmosphere to browse new books, stock up on books and DVDs on your list, or eavesdrop with your gourmet coffee on the many interesting conversations taking place throughout the day. Each Conspiracy Café also screens a cross- section of documentaries and lectures by many of the well-known and not-so-well-known researchers and analysts in the adjacent video lounge.
The July 8 Café will also kick-off a new component -- Street Action -- with teams of activists leaving the Café at 1:00 pm to canvas the Cambridge River Festival just a few blocks away, which is held every Sunday during the summer months. Street Actions will continue in the fall and winter, moving to Harvard and Brattle Squares. Activists interested in participating need to meet at the Café no later than 12:30 pm.
For more information and film schedules or how to volunteer for the Café, email us and look for upcoming news on this site.
In the Video Lounge:
Dr. Joost Hilterman, Deputy Program Director of the Middle East and North Africa Section of the International Crisis Group, will give a talk on his book published by Cambridge University Press entitled: "A Poisonous Affair: America, Iraq and the gassing of Halabja." The event will be hosted by Physicians for Human Rights and will take place from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at 2 Arrow Street in Cambridge.
The Palestinian Summer Celebration 2007 is in the final stages of its inauguration for this year. During the past six months we have corresponded with hundreds of requests from people the world over who have expressed interest in joining the program.
The deadline for the second Month is July 10th 2007, so you still have the chance so sign up if you have not done so already.
The Palestinian summer celebration is a unique annual program that gives people from all over the world the chance to encounter the life and culture in Palestine in addition to donating some of their time to a local community organization through voluntary work and internships. The Palestinian summer celebration 2007 will take place in the Bethlehem area in Palestine, between Wednesday June 20th and August 18th 2007. The annual celebration is organized by Siraj Center for Holy Land Studies in partnership with Bethlehem University and the US based Society for Biblical Studies. Participants will also have the opportunity to listen and question high level speakers of various positions and expertise.
Come to a legislative hearing on Tuesday July 10 at the Statehouse, Room B2, on a state antiglobalization bill, H.374 (formerly aka Globalization Impact Bill).
The latest NAFTA-like instrument, not debated by Congress, is SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership). [Analysis is available in BCA DISPATCH for January 2007 (page 1ff).] This was negotiated and approved by the so-called "heads" of state of US, Canada, and Mexico in the shade (in Waco,Texas) and is very dangerous, draining rather than conserving oil, water, and timber reserves, entertaining an EU-type US- Canadian economic state (Atlantica) including Massachusetts, serving primarily TNCs, bypassing state and local concerns, destroying real estate (Super- corridor), creating border barriers and anti- "terrorist" scapegoating, accelerating dependency on long-distance trade rather than localization, and further damaging democracy.
Prof Richard Stumberg from Georgetown U will testify, and so will Dave Lewit of the Alliance for Democracy (especially about the threat of SPP).
We are also trying to get Prof Dick Peet from Clark U, whom you may have heard at BCA. And perhaps you also could testify.
Please call your state representative and your state senator and ask them to attend. Ask them to call Rep. Byron Rushing for a copy of the bill, and for them to sign on as cosponsor. Here's how you find the phone number of your legislators:
Go to wheredoivoteMA.com.
Type in your address. In bottom box, find "senate" and "rep" in General Court (legislature). Click on each name. That will take you to their pages, with phone numbers.
Questions? Please call Dave Lewit at 617-266-8687.

Dr. Thomas Hansen, a retired mathematics education researcher, author, and teacher, now living in Charlottesville, Virginia, will speak in Portsmouth on Tuesday, July 10, at 7 pm, about some of the unanswered questions of the events of 9/11.
The title of his talk is "Creating Public Myth: The 9/11 Commission Report." Dr. Hansen has researched the events of 9/11 and has had a conversation with Philip Zelikow, the Executive Director of the 9/11 Commission. The talk, which is free and open to the public.
During Dr. Hansen's conversation with Dr. Philip Zelikow, Dr. Zelikow told him that he and his staff made a conscious decision not to dignify "outrageous conspiracy theories" about 9/11 by investigating them or reporting on them. In published academic articles, Philip Zelikow describes his own area of academic expertise as "creating public myth."
According to Dr. Hansen, the 9/11 Commission Report has become a "public myth" itself, which has left out or distorted important facts that do not fit the official story of what happened on 9/11.
Along with the presentation and discussion about his research into 9/11, Dr. Hansen will be singing several original songs about 9/11. According to Dr. Hansen, "It is time to get beyond simply labeling people as 'conspiracy theorists,' and instead to tell the truth about 9/11."
Dr. Hansen cites an October 2006 CBS/New York Times poll showing that fewer than 20% of Americans believe they have been given the full truth about 9/11. They believe that the US government is either hiding something or mostly lying about what they knew prior to 9/11/2001 about possible terrorist attacks against the United States.
This presentation is being sponsored by the Seacoast 9- 11 Questions Group, which is inviting the public to come to explore together why so many Americans are questioning the official story of what happened on 9/11.
For more information contact Marika at 603- 664-5195
You may have heard of the nation wide campaign to expand public awareness of the unanswered questions of 9/11/01 and to amplify our demand for authentic pursuit of 911 Truth. All across America 911 Truth Activists are demonstrating publicly in larger and larger numbers on the 11th of each month.
The Newton chapter of the Boston 911 Truth Committee has decided to participate in this monthly action. We will be meeting at the intersection of Beacon Street and Center Street in Newton Center - one block north of the Newton Center Green Line (D train) T-stop. The demonstration will be from 5-6PM on the 11th of each month, beginning this Monday June 11th.
This demonstration will be lawful and nonviolent. The Newton police department has been notified of our intent to demonstrate and has acknowledged our right to do so.
Please bring appropriate signs to hold up for passing cars to see. Signs should be to the point and respectful (no expletives, please). "DEMAND 911 TRUTH" or "9/11/01 WAS AN INSIDE JOB" would be examples of signs that would help us get our concerns across to passing cars and pedestrians. You do not need to have your own sign to participate. We are working at developing a collection of effective signs for demonstrators to use.
We will have literature on hand for distribution.
If you need help with directions, email Chris Gruener or call him at 617-965-6552.
This award winning film chronicles the life of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, a group of six Sierra Leonean musicians who come together to form a band while living as refugees in the Republic of Guinea. Forced from their homes in Sierra Leone, the members of the band represent the thousands of untold stories that exist amongst the survivors of the Sierra Leonean civil war.
The Newton Dialogues on Peace & War Weekly Vigil Against the War in Iraq (or NDPWWVAWI) continues to be held each and every Thursday (come rain, shine, snow, heat, hail, frogs, or boils) from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at the corner of Beacon and Center Streets in Newton Center.
While Democratic and Republican party presidential hopefuls roll out their schemes for healthcare reform, increasing numbers of working people throughout the US (not to mention the world) live the daily reality of extreme insecurity when it comes to medical care. For the vast majority healthcare is a privilege, not a right.
Big business dailies across the country are touting the Healthcare Reform Act passed by the Massachusetts state legislature in 2006 as an example of how to meet working peoples’ demand for affordable healthcare.
But instead of establishing a healthcare system that guaranteed medical care for all, the Massachusetts state legislature passed a law forcing most adult residents to purchase health insurance. The entire setup is a gigantic gift to the insurance monopoly.
Not only does the plan add insult to injury by levying stiff fines against all those who do not purchase health insurance, it also sets as a goal the elimination of any and all free medical care.
Come discuss how working people can lead a fight for, and win free, lifetime healthcare for all.
Suggested donation: $5 dinner (6PM), $5 program (7PM)
